Take a moment. Feel your feet on the floor. Notice your breath. Here, now — you’re allowed to pause.

In a world that asks us to keep moving, keep producing, and keep holding it all together, the simple act of pausing can feel revolutionary. But it’s in the pause that healing begins.

At Mind & Body Therapy, we honor the mind-body connection. Somatic processing is one of the ways we help clients gently reconnect with their bodies, release stored stress, and restore a sense of calm and wholeness.

What is Somatic Processing?

Somatic processing is a body-centered approach to healing that recognizes that stress, trauma, and emotions don’t just live in the mind — they live in the body too.

When we experience overwhelm or distress, our bodies often store those sensations as tension, tightness, or chronic discomfort. Over time, this can lead to feeling disconnected from ourselves, stuck, or unable to fully relax.

Somatic practices invite us to listen inward, notice what our bodies are holding, and release that tension safely and gently.

The Power of the Pause

The pause is not a luxury — it’s a practice of coming home to yourself.

Somatic processing uses moments of stillness, breath, and mindful awareness to:

  • Notice physical sensations without judgment

  • Release tension held in muscles and nervous system

  • Bring awareness to how emotions show up in the body

  • Reconnect you with feelings of safety and ease

“Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is pause, breathe, and receive.”

A Simple Somatic Practice to Try Today

Here’s a gentle starting point you can try right now, wherever you are:

  1. Sit comfortably with your feet on the floor.

  2. Take three slow breaths, feeling your belly expand and soften.

  3. Scan your body, noticing areas of tightness or warmth. No need to fix — just notice.

  4. Gently exhale, imagining tension melting down into the ground.

This small act of pausing can help reset your nervous system, even in the midst of a busy day.
